Child sexual exploitation is a form of child abuse in which a child or young person is manipulated, coerced or exploited for someone else's sexual gratification or benefit. It can happen in person or online.
Possible warning signs include unexplained changes in behaviour, becoming withdrawn, missing school or home, having unexplained gifts or money, secretive online activity and associating with unfamiliar individuals. These signs do not automatically confirm exploitation but may indicate a need for safeguarding attention.
Grooming is a process in which an individual builds trust or an emotional connection with a child to manipulate, control or exploit them. It may involve gifts, attention, threats, emotional pressure or online communication.
The course may benefit teachers, childcare workers, social workers, youth workers, healthcare professionals, safeguarding staff and anyone interested in understanding child protection and exploitation awareness.
You will explore grooming, manipulation, vulnerability factors, warning signs, online exploitation, safeguarding legislation, responding to disclosures, multi-agency support and prevention strategies.
