Description:

The Focus Awards Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) equips learners with a thorough understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and relationships within the education and training sector. It also emphasises the principles of inclusive teaching and learning, facilitating individual and group learners, and the methods of assessment and their application in education and training.

Learners must earn a minimum of 12 credits to pass this qualification: 3 credits from mandatory group A, 6 credits from optional group B, and 3 credits from optional group C.

This course enables learners to acquire the following knowledge:

Qualification Purpose:

The purpose of Focus Awards Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) is to help learners gain understanding of the roles, responsibilities, and interactions in education and training.

Who Is This Course For?

This qualification is aimed at those learners not currently teaching, learners currently teaching and training and those learners currently working as assessors who wish to achieve a qualification that provides an introduction to teaching.

Entry Requirements:

You do not need any particular qualifications or prior experience to enrol in the Focus Awards Level 3 Award in Education and Training (RQF) course. This course has no teaching placement requirement and is open to individuals aged 19 years and older with a minimum high school qualification.

Progression:

Learners can progress to the below after they have completed this qualification:

  • Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training (CET): Builds on Level 3 AET, necessary for advanced teaching roles.
  • Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET): Equivalent to a foundation degree, offers a deeper understanding of teaching and learning.
  • Specialist Teaching Qualifications: Options like literacy, numeracy, ESOL, or teaching learners with disabilities for specialisation.
  • Assessor and IQA Qualifications: Level 3 CAVA or Level 4 IQA for assessment roles.
  • Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Attend workshops, conferences, and training to stay updated.
  • Higher Education: Consider a bachelor’s degree or higher for further or higher education roles.
  • Employment Opportunities: Apply for teaching positions in adult education settings post-Level 3 AET.
  • Personalized Career Goals: Progression depends on individual goals, subject interests, and educational settings.

Total Qualification Time:

The Total Qualification Time (TQT) includes both guided learning hours (GLH) and an approximation of the hours a student is expected to dedicate to independent preparation, studying, or any other learning activities, including assessments, that are directed by educational staff but not directly supervised by them. The credit value of a qualification is determined by TQT, with one credit equivalent to 10 hours of learning. The Total Qualification Time for this specific qualification is 120 hours.

Guided Learning Hours:

The term “Guided Learning Hours” encompasses all instances of direct interaction, support, or oversight provided to a learner by an educator, supervisor, tutor, trainer, or a suitable education/training provider. The specific Guided Learning Hours for this qualification amount to 48 hours.

Method of Assessment:

  • Assessment includes written assignments and microteaching sessions.
  • In unit 2, learners must participate in one hour of microteaching.
  • They need to deliver a 15-minute session observed and assessed by a tutor.
  • Learners can choose to deliver more microteaching sessions or observe peers for the remaining 45 minutes.
  • All assignments must be submitted online.
  • Simulating the qualification is not permitted.
